Info On Your First Chiropractic Appointment

Your first appointment can last between 1 and 1 ½ hours. During this time the chiropractor will:

  • Take a full case history including your medical history.
  • Obtain your permission to give you a thorough physical examination.
  • Undertake specific orthopaedic and neurological tests for your particular condition.

You may be asked to undress down to your underwear for this examination.  There will be privacy provided for this.  There are gowns provided for those uncorfortable with having to undress.  The chiropractor’s primary concern is to assess what is causing your condition and also to assess if there are any other more serious underlying conditions for which you may need referral to your GP or hospital. Before your first treatment the chiropractor will explain

  • what they have found during the examination,
  • the proposed treatment plan
  • the benefits and risks associated with your condition and proposed treatment.

Your consent for treatment is then obtained before your first treatment starts. After your treatment you will be advised how to help yourself immediately after treatment and in the time between your treatments. Please allow 60 to 90 minutes for your first visit. Subsequent visits will take approximately 30 minutes.
